How long have you been doing what you do, and how did you become a Personal Performance Coach?

To answer this question, it’s probably best that I share with you a defining moment, and a resulting “compelling story”, that brought me to where I am today – coaching people like you on exactly what to do to put yourself first by overcoming the guilt you feel and the negative beliefs that you can’t do something you love and can’t make the money you truly deserve. I’ll show you how you don’t have to settle for that low-income job that makes you feel unfulfilled and physically and mentally tired. That defining moment in my life happened in 2014.

To my friends, family, work colleagues and other parents in the playground, I was ‘doing it!’ By that I mean I was holding down a full-time job, bringing up two girls both under 5 years old, making it work and living the dream. Or was I? In reality, I was doing a good job pretending everything was okay and ignoring the anxiety cracks that were slowly getting bigger. Let me set the scene…

A few years ago, I was starting each day at 6.30am, and in true military style, I’d organise breakfast for the children and see the empty packed lunch boxes on the worktop as a reminder that I’d forgotten to organise them the night before.

I’d usher both children into the car after the usual ‘I can’t find my shoes’ saga, and inwardly I would be panicking about being late and feeling angry AGAIN. Worrying about being late was something I did wherever I went. So, I would arrive at school just as the bell had sounded, confirming that I had indeed failed again.

After a one-hour commute to the office, my journey would be filled with making a mental to-do list with the odd poke from my subconscious callously mocking me because yet again, I’d forgotten to give my children their sports kits or money for some club they were going to. Failure no.2 of the day!

My husband was the main breadwinner, but as comes with a demanding job, so comes the demanding hours, and inevitably, we used to pass each other like ships in the night. He loved his job but after having our two children, there was never enough time in the day to get everything done and I felt like the running of the household and sorting the kids fell to me just because I was the one earning less. To be honest, I think my husband went along with that for some time without any real thought, and so our relationship started to suffer. Feeling alone and spiralling downwards, I started to feel like I wasn’t succeeding in life and my self-esteem was virtually at rock bottom. I longed for a situation where I was not financially dependent on someone else so I could feel like I was contributing something positive to our lives. Instead, I felt like I was treading water and couldn’t see any way out of the darkness I was stumbling about in. I felt like I was failing.

I blamed so much of how I was feeling and what went wrong in my life on my husband. It was easy to do because he was there. I became an angry mum and the arsehole wife. I blamed him for being a crap husband, for not listening, for not understanding me, for not helping me with the kids, for not making me feel wanted and needed. I started to want him out of my life, and we began arguing in front of our young toddlers. Neither of us were happy. I felt physically and mentally exhausted, I wasn’t sleeping great, I had no sex drive and felt completely hopeless and inadequate as a woman.

Admitting how I was feeling out loud felt like admitting failure, but I could feel the weight of the pressure crushing down on me. It was a pressure I had put on myself to be in control, to be liked, to be loved, valued and appreciated. I was constantly chasing my tail and never really catching it and actually feeling guilty for feeling this way. I just wanted OUT of everything.

One morning as my husband went off to work and left me with sorting out the kids AND holding down a full-time job, I sat down and just cried. I sobbed and sobbed and didn’t stop for a long while. Feeling like a failure and guilty for bothering someone else, I called my mum, and she made the 2-hour trip to see me and encouraged me to see a doctor.

I was a complete mess at the doctors, and she just let me sob in her office for what felt like hours. I couldn’t form sentences and couldn’t explain why I was feeling like this, why I was crying, what was making me sad, and I couldn’t see how she could help me.

The doctor diagnosed postal-natal depression and recommended medication, complete rest and couples therapy to help save my relationship with my husband. Slowly, I started to turn things around in my head mentally, and I started to rebuild my relationship with my husband and my children. It was while I was signed off work sick that I admitted to myself that I had had enough of the corporate world because it was making me feel underappreciated and under-utilised, and I knew my life had to change, so I sat down and made a list of things that I COULD realistically change.

The glaringly obvious factor was my job, and after calculating what was needed to ensure we kept our heads above the water. I took the plunge and left my office job, retrained as a teaching assistant, landing a TA role in my childrens’ school – a job which I hoped would tick all my boxes…except one. The income. It might have been a hasty decision, but at the time, I needed to leave the negativity behind me and start a new chapter of life which was more rewarding and positive. Due to the low income of the teaching assistant role, I was determined to boost my salary by finding some other new and exciting way to earn a living which DID tick all my boxes.

All I wanted was something that really drove me…something that could reignite my natural enthusiasm and passion for helping others. Something which would make me feel worthy and in control and an opportunity that allowed me to really make a difference in people’s lives – but what, how and where?

I felt like I was stumbling around looking for opportunities but not really knowing what it was I wanted to do and I grabbed the opportunity of working for myself, being my own boss and retrained in the art of reflexology and Indian head massage. This taste of working for myself was addictive, but as much as I LOVED helping others work through their mental and physical pains and ailments and I could see I WAS making a difference, I didn’t really have enough clients to make ends meet. I certainly wasn’t making enough to enable me to give up my day job working as a Teaching Assistant.

I gave my all working as a TA, but the same pattern started to emerge. There was such a low morale amongst the staff, and I tried to keep spirits up but the place was draining. I felt like this was not where I was supposed to be, and I needed to do something where I could make a real difference, and that allowed me to flourish and utilise all my skills and talents. I was desperate for more out of my life, and I wanted ME back. I kept thinking: how did I let myself end up working for such little reward and why am I letting these people treat me with such little respect? Should I just keep looking for another job, retrain and then just feel the same unfulfilling feeling yet again? It was a reoccurring pattern of emotional turmoil and needed it to stop.

So I did. I stopped. I just stopped. I realised I could keep going for the easy jobs desperately trying to find that one thing that would bring back my love of life but I knew those kind of jobs weren’t for me.

So I made a list of what was important to me. The factors that I knew would make me happy in a job and matched that with my skills and my personality qualities. I knew I wanted to work for myself, be my own boss, work the hours I wanted, make a difference in people’s lives and create an income I had always wanted.

Then it hit me. I wanted to feel good about myself again but felt like I was under constant pressure to people please in my personal life and in my work life, and it left me feeling like I wasn’t good enough. So what if I could make a difference to all the other women out there who felt like I did? During my life, I had come into contact with so many mums and women who were feeling JUST like me, and they had no one to show them that they WERE fantastic individuals. Without knowing it, I had been giving them friendly advice, listening to their problems, their dilemmas and I would give them ideas, motivate them to change their self-beliefs, telling them they WERE better than they gave themselves credit for. I made suggestions to them about how they could make a real change in their lives and guess what? It worked. Knowing I could be there to help my friends and colleagues made me feel really good and that was my solution. It was my calling.

I wasted no time and used any niggling negative worries I had bubbling under the surface as the fuel to ignite my passion to help me understand how I could achieve. So, I crafted The 90-Day Mum Almighty Mindset Masterclass™ for women who want to find their voices, improve their self-confidence and belief in themselves, step out of their comfort zone, finally put themselves first and watch make the magic happen!

For what type of people are your programs NOT going to work?

Please know I’m very selective in who I work with and I cherry-pick my clients, choosing to (gently) turn away people who aren’t suited for my programs and won’t get the results for which they would have signed up for. (It wouldn’t be fair to them).  If this sounds like it’s for you, do yourself two favours…

Doing these two things first will really help you get primed for our work. I’m no rush and will be here when you need me.  Other types of personalities I won’t work with (without exception) are the whiner or the chronic skeptic, as well as individuals who consistently make excuses for not getting their homework done or challenging every aspect of the masterclass.  If you are one of these people, I gently and respectfully ask that you not call and I hope you understand why.  We’ll probably just not work well together and I wouldn’t want you to waste your time or money. 7.  Managing Emotions

A lot of people are uncomfortable with emotions because they have been raised in an emotion-phobic culture. We are not given formal education on the biology of emotions and the brain and we are told we should have control over our emotions, when the fact is that emotions are not under conscious control. No one teaches us the difference between categories of emotions.  In this module, you’ll discover why your emotional balance is so important, learn the difference between categories of emotions and what you can do to subdue your more destructive and self-defeating emotional impulses.  You’ll learn how to be more empathetic and how to manage your feelings, handle stress and become more accepting of your feelings and moods.

8. Applying Assertiveness

Assertiveness is not aggression. Instead, assertiveness is having the confidence and the ability to speak up for yourself, so we’ll measure how assertive you are in your day to day interactions with others.  For some, it’s not easy, so I’ll help you to learn how to positively defend your right to have what you want or need and be able to ask for what you want and say ‘no’ without feeling guilty.  By the end of this module, you will have the tools to apply assertive communication skills to a variety of situations in both your personal and professional life.

9.  Relationships

Relationships have a unique place in your life. It is out of your relationships with people, places and even events that you experience and become who you really are. In this module, you will learn the purpose of relationships, understand what makes you attracted to others and why choose to relate to one person over any other.  We’ll delve into what elements you need to nurture your relationships in different ways and you’ll discover the secrets to the best relationships.

10.  Happy Health

Good health is something you rightly deserve but due to your busy day to day life, it’s not something you always possess. I will work with you to work out your current state of health and fitness and understand the various factors which are contributing to your good or poor health. Together, we’ll set your own health and fitness goals and design a programme that suits your goals and your lifestyle.

How quickly can I expect results?

That depends on how quickly you can make those inner changes. Some clients are ready to go and work hard to make a change in a very short time frame, sometimes even a few weeks while others have a bit more work to do first.
